NUMERICAL MODELLING OF TSUNAMIS GENERATED BY GRANULAR LANDSLIDES IN OPENFOAM

نویسندگان

چکیده

Landslide-generated tsunamis are a relevant source of hazard for coastal areas. In this paper, the preliminary modelling results generated by deformable landslides using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods, in OpenFOAM, is presented. The numerical approach presented here consists granular material Coulomb viscoplastic rheology. This model applied to reproduce three literature benchmark cases (2D submerged, 2D and 3D subaerial, respectively). Some qualitative quantitative results, compared experimental ones, paper.

Seismically generated tsunamis.

People around the world know more about tsunamis than they did 10 years ago, primarily because of two events: a tsunami on 26 December 2004 that killed more than 200,000 people around the shores of the Indian Ocean; and an earthquake and tsunami off the coast of Japan on 11 March 2011 that killed nearly 15,000 more and triggered a nuclear accident, with consequences that are still unfolding. Th...

A Coupled Numerical Model for Tsunamis Generated by Subaerial and Submarine Mass Failures

This paper presents a new numerical model simulating tsunamis generation by landslides. Water, air, and the slide (considered either as a viscous fluid or as a rigid bloc using the penalization method) are described by Navier-Stokes equations, expressed in a unified single fluid approach. The PLIC-VOF method is used to describe the motion of fluid interfaces. We present results for two test cas...

Numerical simulation of waves generated by landslides using a multiple-fluid Navier–Stokes model

a r t i c l e i n f o This work reports on the application and experimental validation, for idealized geometries, of a multiple-fluid Navier–Stokes model of waves generated by rigid and deforming slides, with the purpose of improving predictive simulations of landslide tsunamis. In such simulations, the computational domain is divided into water, air, and slide regions, all treated as Newtonian...

A numerical study of the run-up generated by three-dimensional landslides

[1] A large set of numerical experiments are designed to examine the maximum run-up generated by three-dimensional (3-D) submerged and subaerial, solid body landslides. A depth-integrated numerical model is utilized, allowing for the efficient simulation of landslides in shallow and intermediate water. Six dimensionless parameters are introduced: the slide thickness, the slide wave number, a sl...
